Match Highlights | Birmingham & Solihull 22–19 Droitwich RFC Birmingham & Solihull secured their fifth league victory of the season on Saturday, overcoming a determined Droitwich RFC side 22–19 in a fiercely contested encounter at Forshaw Heath Lane. The result made it five wins from the Bees' opening six league fixtures, although the narrow final margin reflected a match that remained competitive until the closing moments. A Fierce Battle Up Front From the outset, both sides were engaged in a physical contest, with the forwards and the breakdown proving central to proceedings. Droitwich made the stronger start on the scoreboard, crossing for an early converted try to establish a 7–0 advantage. However, the Bees responded positively, finding their way into the contest and beginning to turn their efforts into points. Three tries, including two conversions, alongside a successful penalty kick saw Birmingham & Solihull register 22 unanswered points, overturning the early deficit to establish a 22–7 lead. It was an impressive response to falling behind, particularly against opposition who continued to make the Bees work hard for possession and territory. Droitwich Fight Back Despite the Bees' advantage, the visitors were far from beaten. An interception try helped spark a Droitwich comeback, bringing renewed pressure onto the home side as the match entered its closing stages. With the score reduced to 22–19, the final ten minutes became a tense affair, with just three points separating the teams. Having worked hard to establish their lead, Birmingham & Solihull now faced the challenge of protecting it against a Droitwich side determined to complete the turnaround. The Bees held firm through the closing stages, seeing out the contest to secure a valuable 22–19 victory. It was a match that demanded both attacking resilience after conceding early and defensive determination when the visitors mounted their late challenge. Credit must also go to Droitwich for their performance and the character shown in fighting back to make the closing stages so competitive. Five Wins From Six The victory builds on the previous weekend's bonus-point success away at Claverdon and gives the Bees consecutive wins following their first defeat of the campaign at Woodrush. With five victories from six league fixtures, Birmingham & Solihull have made an encouraging start to the 2026/27 season. Saturday's encounter also provided another reminder of the competitiveness of the league, with every result requiring hard work and determination.
