A superb second half performance saw off a spirited Evesham team in Bees final league game. A victory would see them claim third spot in Division One.
It took just 2 minutes for Bees to go ahead with a try from number 8 Simon Ridler after a fine run from Wing Charlie Truepenny ended with a line out ten metres out. The resulting catch and drive led to a try. Dight missed with his conversion.
Soon afterwards a second line out for the visitors saw another catch and drive but Ridler fell just short of the line this time. The remainder of the half became a dull affair with both sides struggling to find any continuity in their play with many errors, particularly from the visitors. However the highlights were a series of strikes against the head from Bees hooker Sam Covill and a super performance from lock Jack Lazenby, receiving Evesham kick offs and in securing quality ball in the line out.
Saying that it was Evesham who finished the stronger but good defence meant they only had a penalty to show for it.
Stern words from the coaches at half time seemed to do the trick and within 5 minutes of the restart a driving maul saw scrum half Dan Millichap dart through a gap and from the ruck lock Billy Castle picked up and drove over for a try converted by Dight. Continued pressure from the visiting forwards saw fly half Cameron Powell show and go at a ruck and dive over for another un converted try.
With Bees now in full control and Evesham beginning to tire they gained a quick turnover with the excellent Jamie Watson jackling the ball for winger Dight to dart through a gap for a try he converted.
With both flankers, Matt Hind and George Rees dominating in the loose play the ball was moved wide to replacement wing Josh Hunt who was held up near the try line, but he managed to release the ball to fellow winger Dight, but the ball bounced off his head, and when he turned it fell into straight into his hands as he went over for a lucky try he also converted!
The final score of the afternoon fell to Castle who showed excellent pace to race clear from half way for a try converted by centre Matt Bentley.
The final 10 minutes saw three scores go begging with skipper Dan Bagby, Tom Cooper and Ridler all going close. However the boys put in a superb team performance in the second half making up for a disappointing first period.
