Bees held firm late on to secure a 29-21 victory against Dudley kingswinford at Portway in their first game of the season. It took just two minutes for the first Bees score when left wing Matthew Dight intercepted and raced under the posts. He also added the extras. Shortly afterwards he added a long range penalty. With the visitors struggling to live with the pace of their much quicker opponents, fly half and skipper josh wardle again got his centres Dan Bagby and Mikey Thomas moving the ball wide for Dight to take an inside ball and go over under the posts and convert his try. Wing forwards Cameron Powell and Matt Hind added their support at the breakdown, allowing Dight to complete his hatrick just before the break.
At the restart Bees increased their lead to 29-0 when Dight again found space to run around a Dudley prop to score his fourth out wide and convert. At this point the home side became complacent and Dudleys bigger forwards took control and to their credit dominated the rest of the game, scoring the first of their 3 converted tries after the usually solid tackling from Bees becoming a problem, and with prop Alex Benton sin binned for offside Dudley took full advantage with their second try. Injury to Powell saw under17's Jack Allen make his debut and Bees response a was a fine move that saw right wing Tom Cooper held short of the line. With minutes remaining Dudley got the final score as Bees held on to secure a bonus point win.
