Bees off the mark with bonus point win

Colts finish the stronger

An end to end contest saw Bees win an entertaining game at Portway. The early exchanges were fairly even and a Bees penalty hitting the upright was the nearest to a score. The deadlock was then broken in the 12th minute when a series of forward drives saw a resulting penalty taken quickly by scrum half Josh Jones who dived over. Fly half Hari Ladwa added a fine conversion from out wide. However within minutes Malvern scored an try of their own from a catch and drive in the line out. The conversion was missed. The home side then began to gather some momentum getting the ball out wide and playing to their strengths. Winger Dan Cave had two fine runs down the flanks but strong defence halted the charges. Just before the break Malvern repeated a catch and drive in the line out to go 10-7 up but the home side responded with a try for centre Oscar Blundell who took advantage of a gap in the visitors back line to go under the posts. Ladwa converted.
After the break the lead changed again as Malvern scored again through their forward pressure to make it 14-15. However Bees hit back with the try of the match from winger Cameron McGee who received the ball from his brother, centre Ross McGee after a fine three quarter move that saw him out pace the covering defence to score in the corner. At 19-15 the home side took some control of the game and scored their 4th try when Ladwa broke free and found replacement winger Harry Garratt in support to make it 24-15 with 3 minutes left. With the game won Malvern had the last say with a converted try when the usually solid Bees defence left a gap in the centre for them to charge through.
