Colts suffer first defeat

Terence Dight20 Sep 2015 - 21:06

Luctonians take the honours at Portway

With just 13 men Bees borrowed a winger from their visitors and started in a positive mood, controlling the game for the first 20 minutes. All their possession got them close to the try line on three occasions but excellent tackling from the visitors kept them out. No 8 Billy Castle went close before receiving a yellow card two minutes later. Against the run of play some missed tackles led to an unconverted try for Luctonians. A second followed, this time converted, again after some poor tackling from Bees. The two man advantage for the visitors led to two further tries even though Bees had possession of the ball, but sloppy play in the breakdown area saw a turnover which led to a break up field and a converted try. Then an attacking three quarter move from Bees saw a loose pass go to ground and the visitors gathered it and made ground which led to another converted try. HT 0-26
The home side, refusing to capitulate started in determined mood but lacked the clinical finishing demonstrated by their opponents in the first half. After 8 minutes Castle for Bees and the second row for Luctonians received their marching orders after a disagreement!
Bees forwards now began to exert pressure and control the ball much better. This led to a surging run from centre Liam Baber who was held just short, but the borrowed Luctonians player followed up to score! Josh Hunt added the extras. The visitors responded immediately with another unconverted try from their winger.
A much improved second half performance saw a Bees team never giving up and returning a 7-5 result. However the visitors had the final say with an unconverted try in the final play of the game!
