Colts lose out to Moseley in cup

Terence Dight22 Feb 2015 - 22:14

Bees fighting spirit is not enough

In atrocious weather conditions credit went to both teams in making the game a keenly contested affair.
With wind and rain on their backs Moseley spent most of the early exchanges in the Bees half. When a penalty attempt struck the post Matt Hind was quick to react but unfortunately his pass went forward and the visitors No 8 scored from the resulting scrum. The extras were added.
The home side responded with a good move from a quick tap penalty which led to scrum half Dan Millichap diving in for an unconverted try.
Play soon returned to the Bees half however with their 8 securing his second converted try and just before the break more pressure from the Moseley forwards led to a simple run in for their full back for a third try that was also converted.
The second half started promisingly for Bees, now with the elements in their favour, and a strong run through the centre from Joe Zaric led to a try that Matthew Dight converted. At 12-21 the home side gained in confidence with No. 8 Billy Castle carrying the ball well in the loose but it was a lack of quality ball from the set piece which meant their opportunities were now becoming few and far between.
On 55 minutes the visitors took full advantage of the errors being made by Bees, for their stronger forwards to gain their fourth try that went unconverted, this was then quickly followed by another unconverted try, the second for their full back.
However the home side never gave up and quick ball down the blind side saw winger Dight go over in the corner for a try that he failed to convert. With 15 minutes left Bees battled for every ball in what was becoming a mud bath but the Moseley defence held firm and they kicked a penalty which meant Bees would now need three scores to win which was always going to be an impossible ask.
