Bees Colts into 3rd round of National Cup

Terence Dight21 Oct 2014 - 21:14

A fourth successive win at Portway sees Bees through 38-19 against Lichfield.

The first score came on 8 minutes when wing Matthew Dight made up for an earlier penalty miss by kicking ahead and winning the chase for the touchdown. this followed a fine break down the blindside from flanker Simon Ridler. The extras were added by Dight. Then on 13 minutes a fine move involving fly half Josh Wardle, centre Mikey Thomas and full back Frazier Wilding put Dight in space to score and convert his try.
With Bees in control a strike against the head from hooker Sam Covill saw No 8 pick up, feed Thomas for another score. Just before the break Dight completed his hat trick after a fine run and off load from Thomas. He also converted.
At 26-0 ahead the home side, down to 14 men due to a yellow card for wing Tyler Bevan going offside, allowed Lichfield to get on the scoreboard with a close forward drive. However Bees response was swift with another try, this time for scrum half replacement Bevan.
Bees scoring was completed with another fine three quarter move ending with Wardle going over for his second try of the season. However they were reduced to 14 men again when Dight was yellow carded for going offside with just 5 minutes remaining. Lichfield's response was two tries of there own, the final one a penalty try for a trip, which was converted.
