Bees started slowly and were caught out after just 3 minutes when some uncharacteristic sloppy play led to a try for the visitors, who missed with the conversion and an earlier kickable penalty. Bees slowly got their act together and a quick tap penalty from scrum half Tyler Bevan saw him make 30 metres before releasing flyhalf Josh Wardle who chipped through. However a penalty was awarded that wing Matthew Dight put over.
With the visitors looking to move the ball from their 22 good Bees pressure led to an interception from No 8 Simon Ridler who went under the posts. Dight added the extras. On 25 minutes similar pressure led to another interception try, this time for under 17 Charlie Truepenny, making his debut. Dight again converted. Under 17 lock Jack Lazenby, also making his debut, put himself about at restarts and the breakdown and with the home side now in full flow the best try of the game followed after a break from centre Mikey Thomas who went to switch with left winger Dight but dummied and raced to the line before feeding Dight on the inside for him to cross and convert his own try. The visitors then got back on track with a try of their own just before the break to trail 24-10.
At the restart Bees continued their scoring when full back Alex Povey entered the line on the blind side to feed Dight who raced clear for a second try that he converted. At 31-10 Bees became complacent and Old Coventrians, to their credit refused to give up and dominated most of the half with Bees struggling to deal with pace of their centrewho scored two quick tries. Both conversions were missed.
Six minutes later the home side went into panic mode, failing to clear on two occasions as a 5th try was conceded. The conversion was added. Bees replacements, Liam Baber, Connor Caney and Oliver Purser, all under 17’s now entered the game for their debuts.
Pressure from the home side followed which led to a brace of penalties for Dight that helped ease the pressure. At 37-27 with 10 minutes left the visitors then got their 6th try as a nervous Bees outfit dug deep to hold out the repeated onslaughts from the visitors and were relieved to hear the final whistle.
