All change again for the Bees team with their visit to Barkers. Dry conditions!!
Bees start and Barkers return up to halfway before Bees hold Barkers up in the tackle, Barkers managing to free the ball before knocking on in midfield. Some good attritional play follows with the game being played out mainly between Bees 22 and Barkers 10m line. Deadlock broken on 9 minutes following a Bees scrum on halfway. Secure ball from the scrum send out wide quickly for PJ to come back inside step the full back and go in for a first score. Converted by Ben for 0-7.
Barkers restart long and Bees go offside at the first ruck. Barkers run but the ball is split in the 22. Bees secure possession from their scrum but the ball gets spilled near the line. A couple of reset scrums later Barkers secure possession, recycle successfully twice near Bees line before going over for 5-7 on 13 minutes.
Bees restart and Barkers recycle successfully at the first ruck before offending at the next. Bees run the penalty controlling the ball well and making ground up to Barkers 22. Barkers offend and Bees run going close with Bees calling for a scrum at the next penalty offence. Bees secure clean ball going wide quickly but are taken to touch. Barkers secure possession from their lineout and clear to the 22. Barkers go offside following a knock on at the lineout. Bees run, recycle and send the ball out wide going close in the corner but taken to touch. Barkers go offside again following a knock on at the lineout. From the penalty on 5m Joe D goes on a run turning through tackles to score. 5-12 20 minutes in.
Remainder of the half cut a little short following an injury. No further scoring action in this half but plenty of good competition. Sandy comes on for Barkers.
Bees restart the second half the stronger getting field position in Barkers 22 and going close out wide with Barkers making ground back up to halfway before knocking on in midfield. Barkers recover possession but hold on in midfield. Bees opt for the scrum sending the ball out quickly for PJ to dummy and go through a gap 4 minutes in. Ben converts for 5-19.
Barkers restart long with Tom G making good ground from the first ruck. Rhys picking from the second before setting up PJ for his third score. 6 minutes in for 5-24.
Barkers restart and contest well for the longest non-scoring part of the game. Barkers edged the territory but couldn't convert from positions in Bees 22. Bees defence working well. Deadlock eventually broken with Bees stealing possession following a Barkers lineout , Ben making the initial break with Rhys on hand to finish 24 minutes in for 5-29.
Credit to Barkers they stuck with it competing well. Further injury saw a run out for Ivor for Barkers. This time out though Barkers were able to convert territory into points going in at close range on 32 minutes converted for 12-29 and from close again to close out the game for a final score of 17-29.
All in all a good contest and a great run out for Bees squad. Sandy getting suitable attention in the tunnel at the end.
