First Brexit then Trump and now a Bees run of form thats certainly bringing some early festive cheer to the coaches.

Bees U15s V Kenilworth

The mood was one of cautious confidence on the back of a good all round performance the previous week, as Bees took the field against Kenilworth, an unknown rugby commodity.

Possession swung during the opening passages of play and the sides looked fairly evenly matched; however on 7 minutes the deadlock was broken by a quick ball from a forward drive lead by Dan into the opposition 22 which allowed Will to make an inside break, off-loading the ball to Alex who beat the full back to score. 5 – 0

Kenilworth bounced back and quickly got back into the game with quick line speed and a powerful display up front - disrupting the Bees rucking and lineout - consequently the next 20 minutes were a fairly evenly matched scrappy affair with neither side able to establish dominance .

The lads remained committed and adapted their playing style with some strong direct drives from Ben, Ollie, Dan and James, paying dividends - once more producing quicker ball, which was moved wide enabling Kody to break through the centre to score on 28 minutes. 12 – 0

Taking the game to Kenilworth was paying dividends and when James made a break from the rear of a scrum the ball was once more recycled, providing quick ball from Will to throw an excellent dummy and break through to score the third try just before half time. 19 – 0

The half time huddle presented a dilemma with no one quite sure what to say, in the unaccustomed position of Bees being well on top against a capable opposition!

Bees started the second half with greater intent and disrupted Kenilworth from the restart, turning the ball over and moving it wide. Will made another incisive line break and fed Kody who broke through the full backs despairing tackle attempt with another strong run, to score his second try. 24 – 0

It took another 10 minutes before Bees were again able to break down the Kenilworth defence. A turnover in their 22 created an opportunity for Joe Rogers, who threw one of his now trademark outrageous dummies to split the defence and scamper over to score from 20 metres out. 29 - 0

A prolonged period of possession saw Bees edge their way towards the Kenilworth line and this pressure was rewarded by Kody once more breaking through to score his 3rd try, capping off a fine individual performance. 34 – 0

As the clock ran down Kenilworth’s endeavours were justifiably rewarded with a fine try to bring proceedings to a close. 34 – 7

A super performance from the boys; however the final score did not reflect how competitive Kenilworth were throughout. While they were able to match the boys up front, they were unable to contain a muscular performance from a Bees back line that is slowly growing in confidence.

Aside from the try scorer’s special mention should be made of Mac who had another fine performance, orchestrating play in the heart of the back line in addition to delivering another accomplished kicking display. Not forgetting Tom who marked his debut with what was undoubtedly the tackle of the day!

Up front James was outstanding once more and Ben stood out with another fine abrasive performance carrying the ball, however the Man of the Match award went to Dan who rediscovered some of his old form contributing doggedly throughout, driving and recycling the ball.

While the overall emphasis will remaining on body positions and developing a more dynamic rucking game, the boys need to be congratulated for producing another impressive and thoroughly entertaining performance against a competitive Kenilworth side.
