AND IT ALL BEGAN SO PROMISINGLY!!!

It all started so well for Bees at Old Coventrians. The damp, chilly conditions were clearly playing on the minds of the opposition as Bees kicked off. A brilliant chase applied the pressure and as the ball came back on the Bees side, Joe was on hand to show his power and blast his way through the tacklers to score. Almost immediately afterwards, Bees applied the pressure again and Tyler found space on the outside to race clear. It looked like it was going to be a very one sided affair however Bees may have been a little overconfident, assuming they could just run through at will, Bees continuously ran in to trouble and lost the ball. Old Covs scored just before half time and after the break looked the stronger side. Despite a well taken try from Robert, Old Coventrians finished the match with a win.
In the second match Bees once again started stongly and from a breakdown Fraser saw space on the outside and accelerated away for a great try. Stephen was next on the scoresheet finishing off some good Bees’ handling. With Old Coventrians’ only crossing Bees line once in that match, the second game gave Bees a victory for their efforts.
Despite the improvement in the second match, the third match was a very one sided affair. Bees work at the breakdown was simply not strong enough, every time Bees took the ball into the breakdown, the opposition seemed to come away with it. With so little ball to play with, Bees were left to defend for the majority of the match. Tackles began to slip off and Old Coventrians ran in four unanswered tries.
It was a disappointing end to the morning and proved that matches can be won and lost in the breakdown. If a team does not have the ball then they can’t win and this is something that needs to be really worked on if Bees are going to dominate in future games.
