Community rugby only works because people give a little of their time to help the club run smoothly.
Birmingham & Solihull RFC is currently looking for a Club Safeguarding Officer, a role that typically takes around 1–2 hours per month and helps ensure the club remains a safe and welcoming place for everyone involved.
With full RFU training and support provided, this is a manageable but important role that helps protect the wellbeing of our players and volunteers.
What the Role Involves
The Safeguarding Officer acts as the club’s main point of contact for safeguarding matters and helps ensure the club follows RFU safeguarding guidance.
Responsibilities include:
• Acting as a point of contact for safeguarding questions or concerns
• Ensuring DBS checks and safeguarding training are completed for relevant volunteers
• Submitting the annual RFU Safeguarding Audit
• Keeping safeguarding information accessible and up to date
• Attending committee meetings where safeguarding is a standing item
Time Commitment
This role typically requires around 1–2 hours per month, with a slight increase in activity at the start of the M&J season.
Training and support are provided by the RFU, and the club will arrange the required DBS check.
Who Might Suit This Role
This role would suit someone who is:
• Calm, organised and approachable
• Comfortable following clear processes
• Interested in supporting a safe environment for young players
You do not need previous safeguarding experience, as full training will be provided.
A Small Role That Makes a Big Difference
Safeguarding helps ensure that everyone involved in rugby — especially young players — can enjoy the game in a safe and supportive environment.
If you can spare a small amount of time each month, this role is a great way to support the club and the wider rugby community.
