Match Preview - North Midlands Vase 1st round - Old Yardleians vs Bees

Arturo Lupoli4 Sep 2021 - 16:22

Only 1 week to go

The long wait is nearly over and a better game to break the fast could not have been wished for. The North Midlands Vase competition has drawn us away to one our closest neighbours in Old Yardleians RFC in the first round on Saturday 11th September 2021.

The Tilehouse Lane outfit were formed in 1927 and currently ply their trade in Midlands 4 West (South). They have had some their most successful seasons in the last 10 years:
Midlands 4 West South Champions 2012/13
North Midlands Vase Winners 2012/13
Midlands Junior Vase Winners 2012/13
Midlands 3 South (West) Champions 2013/14
North Midlands Shield Plate Winners 2015/16

During those halcyon years, many of their players cut their teeth with Bees or the then recently folded Solihull RUFC, players like Phil “Horse”Watson, Rob Bastock, Jason “Ace” Goodwin, Tommo Thompson and Nick “Barrel” Palmer, all being coached by the Bees legend, Richard “Grinner” McCrainor.

Head Coach, Clive Chapman, has selected a squad for next week’s game containing a few of last years colts, who make their first team debut. Congratulations to Lewis Edwards, Morgan Hennessey and Jake Lowe. The mixture of youth and experience should make for a competitive game. The address of the ground is Tilehouse Lane, Shirley, Solihull, West Mids. B90 1PW and kick off is at 3.00pm.
