A stern test for Bees in the face of Redruth RFC & its mighty pack

Bees will be looking to get back to winning ways against Redruth, who currently occupy third place in National League 2 South, having accrued 18 points. Redruth have won on the road at Dings Crusaders and Guernsey, their sole defeat being a 68-21 thumping at Worthing Raiders. At home they have beaten Taunton Titans, and last weekend had a comfortable 50-36 win over Clifton.

Redruth RFC was founded in 1875. They have won the Cornwall Cup on 10 occasions as well as being 3 times winners of the Cornwall Super Cup. In 2004/05, they beat Macclesfield, 33-14, in the National League 3 play-off game, to join National League 2 (level 3 rugby at the time). Redruth experienced 6 seasons of level 3 rugby, their best finish being third in 2008/09, behind winners Bees and Cambridge. (With the advent of the Championship in 2009/10, National League 2 became National League 1). Redruth were relegated from National League 1 to National League 2 South at the end of the 2010/11 season. This will be their 8th successive season in National League 2 South. Last season they finished 5th on 89 points, winning 16 and losing 14 matches.

Bees last two meetings with Redruth, in 2008/09, saw a 35-28 home win for Redruth on the opening day of the season, with Bees winning 31-7 at Sharman's Cross Road in the return game.

With regard to team news, there are no changes in the pack for this game. In the backs, Luke Smith returns to fill the No.14 shirt, Dan Kelly moving to outside centre. On the bench Bees welcome back “Pieman” Matt Probert, the other replacements being Nick Rigby (a prop on loan from Worcester Warriors), Ed Krawiecki, Adam Nunney & Ollie Walker.

Meanwhile, the Hornets will be in search of their first win of the season in the Midlands Reserve League. They are also playing at Portway, the opposition being Newport (Salop) 2 RFC (3.00pm, KO).
