Bees need to be on their metal for the trip to Scunthorpe

Tough away trip in prospect as the Bees look to put Sandbach loss behind them

The Bees will be looking to put the disappointment of last week’s defeat against Sandbach behind them as they travel up to Scunthorpe on Saturday (21st April, 3pm KO).

Although there is nothing but pride at stake, the Bees know that they will be in for a tough encounter against a Scunthorpe side that is unbeaten in the last four outings.

Lying in fourth spot in the league on 87 points, 10 points adrift of second-placed Peterborough Lions with just this game to complete their season, “Scunny” will nonetheless wish to end their 2017/18 campaign on a high.

Relegated from National League 2 North last season, the Lincolnshire side have made a good fist of their return to Level 5 and their recent form has been particularly impressive.

In 25 games, they have notched up 18 wins and one draw, with just six losses, three which came in the opening month of the season. With just two losses on home soil, Heslam Park has been a happy hunting ground for the men in green, with only Newport Salop (18-52) and Nuneaton (25-53) victorious there to date.

Away from home, defeats have come at the hands of Doncaster Phoenix (36-17), Peterborough Lions (21-17), Bournville (36-12) and, on the opening game of the season, Birmingham & Solihull, who came out 20-15 winners in a tight game.

That day, on a warm and sunny late summer afternoon, a hat trick from Steve Johns was enough to see the Bees home despite two yellow and one red cards.

A growing injury list means that Pete Glackin and Stewart Pearl have made a number of personnel and positional changes from last week’s match day squad.

In the back division, Harry O’Brien reverts to full back with Jack Jolly moving to fly half. Reiss Boon makes his first league start of the season at scrum half. With Steve Johns replacing Jimmy Oliver at outside centre, Jevon Hinds comes in on the right wing. Ben Phillips provides cover for the backline on the bench.

In the forwards, Matt Probert returns at tight head to face his old club and is joined in the front row by Joe Foreman and Zane Raimondi. Matt Spink also returns in the engine room, partnering Andy Weaver. Ashely Scriven starts on the blindside, with Marcus Brown on the openside.

Harry Smith and Keenan Cooper both feature on the bench, with Harry Barnes, Tyler Price and Charley Robinson also making the trip as travelling replacements.

There is no game for the Hornets, whose season has now concluded.
