Better than expected conditions for Bees first outing at U17 for the season and a first ever match up with Evesham.
Bees start with Evesham recycling before Bees go off their feet at the next breakdown. Evesham clear to touch and Bees are penalised for offside following the lineout. Evesham kick to touch again up to the 10m. Evesham secure initial possession from the lineout and then Bees ear turnover clearing down the touchline and up to the Evesham 10m. Evesham secure clean ball at the line out and clear into Bees territory. Bees run the return up into the Evesham 22. Evesham turnover ball at the breakdown recycling well but contained to their 22 before being penalised for holding on. Bees run with Callum going over for the first score. Noah converts on 6 minutes for 7 - 0.
Evesham restart and Bees take box kicking from the first ruck. Evesham attack wide but a Bees knock on halts play on Bees 10m. Evesham secure possession from the scrum, recycling before kicking for territory. Bees initially run the return and then kick from the next ruck. good chasing but penalised for hands in the ruck at the next breakdown. Evesham clear to their 10m. Evesham secure ball from their lineout before being held up in midfield, maul called. Evesham awarded the scrum? but Bees secure ball against the head and go wide quickly for Dec to go on a charge down the wing. 12 - 0 on 13 minutes.
Evesham restart and Bees run the return initially recycling on halfway and further breaks and quick ball take Bees up to the 22 and then through with Joe going over on 15 minutes. Noah converts for 19 - 0.
Evesham restart and Bees knock on, quickly followed by going offside at the scrum. Evesham clear to touch in Bees 22. Lineout is overthrown and Kamil makes an initial break. Bees recycle and kick down the wing finding touch on Evesham’s 10m. Evesham secure possession from their lineout recycling twice in midfield before kicking. Bees run the return before being turned over in midfield but the defence recovers holding up Evesham for a scrum. Bees secure possession but knock on, Evesham then kicking for territory. Bees run the return with Dec progressing into the 22 before Bees tackle a man without the ball. Evesham clear to their 22. Evesham secure possession from their lineout initially recycling in midfield before Bees secure turnover ball with Kamil then going through on 23 minutes. Noah converts for 26 - 0.
Evesham restart and an early break from Ben sees he get to within a couple of metres. Good support but penalised for holding on. Evesham clear their 22. Evesham lineout continues to function well and ball secured and some good recycling in midfield but no ground made and eventually penalised at the breakdown. Bees run quickly and some great hands out wide and back inside sees Nathan go over on 29 minutes. Noah converts for 33 - 0.
Evesham were sticking with it and had their first extended spell in Bees 22 with some one up running making steady progress towards the Bees line. A shift of attack out wide and safe hands exploiting the narrowed Bees defence to close out the half 33 - 5.
Evesham restart for the second half doesn't go 10 and following the scrum a strong run from Andy sees Bees into the 22, quick recycling sees Bees up to the line and from the ruck Ben dives over at the fringe on 37 minutes for 38 - 5.
Bees secure ball from the restart and go wide with Tom O kicking down the touch line up to Evesham’s 22. Evesham secure ball from the lineout recycling successfully in midfield before Bees earn turnover ball before knocking on. Evesham clear past their 22 with turnovers exchanged before Callum makes a break to skip through on 42 minutes. Noah converts for 45 - 5.
Evesham still competing well and slowing Bees. Bees offences allowing Evesham into the 22. From the lineout Bees get initial hands to the ball but to touch deeper in the 22. From the lineout Evesham set up a tight maul which slowly but surely trundles its way up to and over Bees line. Biggest question was could the Evesham 9 have caught the ball!. Great maul though for 45 -10 on 51 minutes.
Bees restart and Evesham knock on. From the scrum Bees go wide recycle and then come back across the pitch and then deep into the 22. Short stoppage to play restarted with a Bees scrum. Training ground move with 8/9/10/12 executing well for Callum to skip through unchallenged for Noah to convert for 52 -10 0n 54 minutes.
Evesham restart but feet in the next ruck sees Bees run from the penalty going wide before sending a kick back cross field but Bees knock on and Evesham kick from the advantage. Bees run the return and Lewis goes on a charge and through. Noah converts for 59-10 on 62 minutes.
Evesham restart and Bees knock on. Evesham advance into Bees 22 following their scrum and a well executed chip from the centre out does the Bees defence, regathered for Evesham’s third score. Converted for 59 - 17 on 64 minutes.
Highlights for the remainder of the half were Bees only lineout of the game called not straight and a Bees turnover in Evesham’s 22 giving Cole a run in for the game’s final score on 68 minutes.
So, Bees progress in the NM Cup - great result for a stretched squad.
