Well you don't get to start many reports with four players away on NATIONAL representative rugby. Hearing parents/grand parents singing those anthems must have been something.
So over to the rest of the team for their third consecutive final at a windy but dry Dudley Kingswinford.
Bromsgrove start into the wind Bees take recycling a couple of times before kicking long. Bromsgrove run the return but Bees turnover possession wide before going into touch. Technical offence at the lineout gives Bromsgrove a free kick which is sent downfield. Bees return but are turned over allowing Bromsgrove to clear to the 22. Bromsgrove turnover possession at the lineout and a succession of Bees penalties sees Bromsgrove progress upfield to a lineout on the 22. Bromsgrove secure possession but a Bees knock on in contact gives Bromsgrove a scrum. Bees adjudged off their feet at the next ruck and the penlty is run quickly allowing Bromsgrove to go over in the corner 9 minutes in for 5 - 0. Game on.
Bees restart and recycle well before Bees again offend at the breakdown. Bromsgrove find touch just outside Bees 22. Not a day for the lineout throwers and the ball is overthrown and although it finds its way back on the Bromsgrove side Kamil is first to pounce going through on a strong run, offloading inside to Noah and then back to Kamil before being taken to touch. First spark of the day. Bees now deep into Bromsgrove’s 22. After the lineout, Bees penalised for going off their feet. Bromsgrove run and Bees not 10. Bromsgrove then find touch on the 10m. Not straight at the lineout gives Bromsgrove scrum ball (?) but they go in at the side at the first ruck. Bees run and Noah goes through to open the account on 17 minutes. Converted out wide for 5 - 7.
Bromsgrove restart long and Bees clear past halfway. Bromsgrove secure possession from the lineout and send the ball into midfield before it is kicked out on the full (EEE AWWW chant not approved at U16 level). Bees secure possession from their lineout on the 10m and Bromsgrove go off their feet. Bees run and a chip through from Noah is gathered by Nathan for him to go over on 21 minutes (got that one correctly recorded Pete). Noah converts for 5 - 14.
Bromsgrove restart and after clearing to the 10m Bees earn turnover ball in midfield following the Bromsgrove lineout. Bees starting to go through the gears now and exert some concerted pressure in the Bromsgrove 22 with Ben going over following an Ollie offload on 24 minutes. Noah converts for 5 - 21.
Ollie offload chant must have been carried by the wind and heard as Ollie off by the ref and a yellow soon followed after early exchanges in Bees 22. Bees absorb the Bromsgrove pressure of the next few minutes and clear successfully. Bromsgrove secure possession from the next lineout and a missed knock on (or was it advantage) sees Bees eventually recover the ball for Noah to go through again 33 minutes in. 5-26
Bees firing well now and Kamil closes out the half with a further try for Bees for 5 - 31.
Bees restart and Bromsgrove knock on and they go offside. Bees run recycle successfully in the 22 a couple of times before Lewis B goes through to score. Noah converts for 5-38 36 minutes in.
The score prompted Bromsgrove to life and they started to exploit and take the help of the conditions gaining territory and retaining possession. scoring twice before sending a fast pass wide from a ruck 5m to go out and the second from a short drive following a series of rucks on or close to the Bees line. Score taken to 17-38 on 55 minutes.
Bees replacements settled in now and that was it for crossing the Bees line. From the next restart the ball finds Noah who kicks through and regathers before out stripping the defence a minute later for 17-43.
More or less the same again shortly after the next restart where Noah chips through and probably had to run a little harder for the next score. Lungs no doubt burning conversion successful for 17 -50.
Bromsgrove took the next score following pressure in the Bees 22 with a well executed from goal more or less from the base of the ruck.
Bees were quite relentless today and some strong running continued and the scrum really started to exert some dominance now. All efforts rewarded with Lewis B going over from a pick up at 8 and the final score of the game awarded for an adjudged deliberate knock on in midfield with Bees holding a 2 man overlap. Both converted for a final score of 20-64.
Tremendous performance by all rewarded by a convincing scoreline. Everything Bromsgrove scored today was very hard earned and that extra focus and desire from Bees today was so good to see following some recent patchy showings. Credit Bromsgrove for the contest and competing all the way but Bees wanted this one.
3rd consecutive NM Cup final win for Bees. Can't be bad for an understrength team!
