Bright and breezy and it looked like everyone remembered to put their clocks forward.
Bournville start with Bees recycling up to halfway. The ball goes out wide and Lewis H makes initial yards before Bees recycle well sending the ball out wide the other way for Nathan to go over after 2 minutes. Look forward to seeing the photo for that one. 0-5
Bournville restart and eventually knock on after turnovers exchanged. Bees kick following the scrum. Bournville recycle well but knock on in midfield. Bees go wide from the scrum and chip. Bournville gather but attack from deep and Andy steals the ball midfield to go over for Bees 2nd on 7 minutes. 0-10
Bournville restart but knock on. Bees attack from the scrum with Ollie making good yards and some good recycling getting Bees upfield before being taken to touch. Not straight at the lineout gives Bees the scrum. Bees attack wide but are penalised for holding. Bournville kick for touch but into a strong wind and Bees gratefully gather and make yards up to halfway before being turned over. Bournville the show what they can do with some great control and one off runners taking Bees deep into their half before earning another penalty for offside. Bournville run and maintain their phase play before getting up to and over Bees line on 16 minutes. Converted for 7-10.
Bournville were back into this one with some flourish asking their forwards to do the grunt and leaving attacks to their backs. A few turnovers exchanged and the odd knock on slowed things but Bournvilles control and forward application gave them further reward when then got into Bees 22 and again converted the territory to points 25 minutes in. 12-10
Bournville restart and Bees gather but offend after recycling a couple of times. Bournville run but knock on in midfield. Kamil attacks from the scrum and Bees at last exert some forward control again eventually setting up Will L to go over on 30 minutes for 12-17.
Only further highlight from the half was the reaction from the Mums to their poster boy of the day PJ when he went on one of those spinning runs.just before half time.
Bees picked up their intensity for the early part of the second half With Kamil going over after his initial break, offloading to Tom J and getting back up and chasing to take the off load from Tom J and score on 40 minutes. Converted for 12-24 and the Ben going over from close after pressure on the Bournville line on 44 minutes. Converted for 12-31.
Looked like a few thought it was job done but Bournville were playing to a different script and went over in the corner following a crossfield kick on 50 minutes. Converted for 19-31.
Bournville continued to compete well but Bees earn turnover shortly after the restart making ground up to the 22 before knocking on. Bees take the scrum against the head attacking wide with Kamil eventually taking possession and going through for another score on 54 minutes for 19-36.
Back to the story of the first half with Bees falling off the forward tempo but Tom J going over in midfield following a 5m scrum on 65 minutes converted for 19-43. Bournville not to be outdone again showed that forward control can get hard yards this time rewarded by a strong crossfield running line to close out the game 26-43.
Not long left of the season now and some tough opposition to come. Every game is a final now. For me lets get our forwards at the rucks and our backs in the backline. Much better to contest hard at the breakdown and make it difficult for the opposition. We know our backs can tackle. I suspect that's what the upcoming teams are going to do and you've got to win the ball before you can score with it. All sounds harsh after a good win but any complacency needs to get parked until pre-season for next year where Ken can run it out of the systems going up that hill.
