Bees emerge victorious after a testing match

Bees welcomed a strong Old Coventrians outfit to Portway on a beautiful autumn morning. Conditions were ideal for an excellent game of rugby and that is what all the players delivered. The first half was played with great intensity, OCs were excellent at the break down and their line speed was forcing Bees into uncharacteristic handling errors. Indeed, it was OCs that drew first blood on 14 minutes when they opted to take the three following a penalty for a dangerous tackle. Still OCs pressed but the Bees defence held firm before breaking free for Tom O Hanlon to outpace the OCs defence and score under the posts, duly converted by Noah to give Bees a slightly flattering 7-3 half time lead.
Magic words at the team talked had clearly clicked and Bees emerged for the second half firing on all cylinder, almost immediately Noah kicked over the top for Tom to use his pace again and score under the posts, Noah made it a 7 point gain. From the following play Bees worked it down the left and following a grubber kick through Josh was able to pick up and again score under the posts allowing a further 7. In no time it was 21-3. By 45 minutes it was 28-3 as Josh scored again and Noah added to extras. At this point OCs were struggling to contain Bees intensity and a series of (understandable) injuries broke up the game.
Still Bees pressed and this time Ollie Heeks powered over in the corner, Noah adding a further 2 from the touchline. The final Bees score came on 62 minutes Noah breaking tackles to plant down, unconverted this time though. The final score and last action went to OCs though and this was no more than their play deserved, going through the phases before moving the ball out wide to leave the final score as 40-8.
Thanks to our opponents today and we look forward to visiting them later in the season.
