Superb handling form the under 11s

With Bromsgrove bringing a large squad of players to Portway, the task ahead appeared daunting for Bees under 11s however this is not a squad that shies away from a challenge and they took to the pitch with a determination and a passion that would have put England to shame. Ferocity in the ruck and the tackle gave Bees the advantage in the early exchanges but it was Bromsgrove who scored first against the run of play. Undeterred, Bees set about regaining parity and with a fierce charge through the heart of the defence, Eddie got Bees on the front foot. Charlie, who played like a rabid tiger for the whole match, scooped up the ball from the ruck to spread the ball wide and when the ball found Tyler, he raced away from the defence to score the team’s first try.
Bromsgrove once again crossed the defensive line and added to their score but Oliver was beginning to find holes in the Bromsgrove defence and added two tries in quick succession. Not wishing to be outdone, Brendan also added a brace of tries to his season’s tally and as the pressure increased, Bromsgrove began to miss tackles. Robert was quick to capitalise displaying his usual silky skills, he danced through the defence then used real power to cross the try line.
Louie (who before the match had said that he would be happy as long as he didn’t end up with a broken collar bone) was hooking so brilliantly that Bromsgrove were barely able to win their own srummage ball, it looks like we may have found Louie’s position. When the ball came back on the Bees’ side another superb passage of play saw the ball find its way into Will B’s hands and he bulldozed his way through the defenders for a great try.
Bees were enjoying themselves by now and with the game reaching the final stages, they played some of the finest rugby I have seen. Every player was working for the team and the passing was sublime. Super handling delivered the ball to Josh and he took a great straight route through the defence to bag a wonderful score. Luca (known for his superb tackling) was distributing the ball brilliantly at scrum half and linking with Noah who set the ball moving down the line where Curtis was making some excellent dashes around the outside of the defenders. On the other wing Fraser worked tirelessly and really deserved the try he scored when he tip-toed down the touchline.
As the Bromsgrove defenders started to tire, Bees went up a gear. A brilliant break from Noah looked to have ended when he was tackled but a sublime flick off the floor was perfectly timed as Oliver took the ball at full speed and raced away for his hat-trick score. This was swiftly followed by Oliver’s fourth but Bees were not quite finished. Moncef returned to the fray and after bumping off two tacklers found himself in the clear and showed a real turn of pace to sprint away from the Bromsgrove team to score. Then moments later Joe produced one of his trademark crashes through the heart of the defence to top off a tremendous display with a score.
It is without doubt some of the best rugby we have played this season and it was all about playing for one another. Every member of the squad played superbly. I would be very hard pressed to select a man of the match this week as for me there were 15. I hope we can keep up this intensity next week when we play Sutton Coldfield.
