Another great week for the under 11s

Bees under 11s vs Moseley
It was another great morning of rugby as Bees’ under 11s continued their recent good run of form against Moseley. With almost every member of the squad in attendance, it was a great opportunity to mix up the team and begin to see some partnerships developing. Charlie and Noah quickly settled in to their half back roles, directing play and (with two centres playing for each side) Fraser and Brendan developed a good link in the middle of the pitch. Summer and Eddie took responsibility for driving the ball at the heart of the defence and with Will B once again marauding through defenders, Bees began to create space. This meant that Josh and Curtis had a chance to outflank the Moseley wingers and make good yards up field; both looked superb with the ball in their hands and displayed real pace. With Fraser and Oliver scoring 2 and 3 tries respectively and Brendan also getting on the score sheet, it was all one way traffic in the first quarter. When Moseley did get possession and kicked the ball down field Will A was perfectly positioned to field the ball and return with interest. Moncef made his season debut and despite the brevity of his appearance (due to a mouth-guard malfunction) it was great to see him once again charging up the field with the ball in his hands.
As the game entered the second quarter, Bees took their foot off the gas and Moseley needed no second invitation. Some weak Bees tackling allowed Moseley to score 2 unanswered tries and although Oliver managed to claw one back, another Moseley try meant that the half time score was 7 – 3 to Bees.
After a quick break, it was back to action. Bees launched a full on onslaught in the Moseley half. In desperation Moseley tried to clear their lines but Stephen was under every high ball and his speedy runs put Bees straight back on the attack. Charlie was tenaciously grappling at the centre of every maul and ripped the ball away from some far larger opponents and when the ball was shipped back Noah put in some raking kicks to clear the Bees line. Robert seemed to be at the heart of every attack and almost scored the try of the day when he looped around Summer who brilliantly offloaded the ball and as Robert charged at the try-line one foot narrowly brushed the touchline.
With Bees crossing for four great ties, the game seemed all sewn up but a late rally from Moseley put Bees back on defensive duty. Luca is at his best when defense is required and a number of trademark Luca tackles stopped the opposition in their tracks. Moseley did manage to cross Bees try line once but Bees were soon back on the offensive. Joe had another brilliant game, all over the park powering the ball deep in to Moseley territory, he was unlucky not to be awarded a try when he crossed the opposition line, However, moments later, Brendan was able to finish off the fixture with the final try of the match.
The intensity of all the players was fantastic today and the contest at the breakdown was fierce. With more possession and the opportunity to secure the ball going forward there was some great individual flair on display and the only things that need to improve now are the movement of the ball and the reaction time at the ruck. With some slightly crisper (and earlier) passes, Bees will be a difficult team to defend against and with each week bringing individual and team improvements, the season is looking very exciting indeed.
