It’s been a month and a half since we played a game and it is clear that everyone was keen to get back to rugby.
DK were a bit of an unknown quantity for us, I don’t think we have ever played them except at festivals but the boys once again showed what a good team they are becoming. The conditions were really poor and would have frustrated many a team with the likelihood of little grip and a slippy ball but not us. The frequent use of mauls keeping the boys off the floor...and clean(er!) and dry(er!) resulted in a fast moving game and a good degree of time on the ball realised by all which is always good. What I did notice is that I was not instructing the boys from the touchline as much as i would usually do as they started to make game decisions themselves, talk to each other and maintain their own team morale. This is massive and will help them enormously in the future.
A convincing win in game 1 for Bees should have been followed up with more of the same in game 2 but I think that our fitness has suffered with so little play recently and the match was a close affair and we picked up some injuries along the way including Jude and Tom (hopefully not serious) although we did eventually come out on top.
Well done boys, another great performance and I see no reason why we can’t repeat this next Sunday when we are away at Sutton Coldfield.
