A trip across to Coventry for our first match against Broadstreet.
Turning through the gates to a car park and clubhouse for us to envy - the omens were they would be a tough opposition. The sun was shining, but it appeared that someone had brought the Portway Wind fan with us as a brisk and chilly breeze was evident.
Illness also meant the team were light on numbers so with only 8 players there would be no substitutions - time to dig in!
The Bees were off to a good start. Bees kick off and early pressure saw Ollie take advantage of a free pass from a ruck infringement and run in a try from halfway.
Broadstreet replied shortly afterwards with a a try from halfway after a turnover and Bees responded again with Sam running in a solo try down the touchline.
After a penalty clearance from Bees 22, Broadstreet came back with a sustained series of phases and pressure was rewarded with another try. With heads up they were quickly able to run in another 2 with some strong running up the centre.
Bees responded with 2 more tries - the first by Sam after he kicked up-field, and Lauren's strong follow up won the ball which was popped to Sam to run in, and then Ewan picked a loose pass off his bootlaces and romped around the outside for the Bees' 4th try.
The half ended with a try to Broadstreet from a 5m scrum.
Half-time Score after a close fought 20 mins: 5:4
Second-half blues kicked in for Bees again - Having given in to pressure from the kick off to let Broadstreet score, Broadstreet were quickly able to follow-up with another 4.
Bees finally stemmed the tide moving the ball from tackles and Ollie making a storming run from halfway through a sea of Broadstreet players.
Broadstreet kept the score ticking with some great hands to seal their 6th try of the half. With Bees picking themselves up - there were end to end exchanges with Lochie and Ewan making good breaks down the touchline, before Lochie was able to score from a scrum.
Another strong run from Ollie from the Bees 22 saw Bees pick up before Broadstreet took control once again running in 5 more tries with consistent pressure and slick handling.
Emma restored some pride for Bees at the whistle with a long touchline run to secure a final try.
Second Half score: 11:3
Match score: 16:7
A tough character building match for the team following a good run of results.
