We all drove to the home game on a cold and frosty but sunny morning expecting the sun to burn away the nights frost and keep our hearty parents at bay from mild hypothermia. However once through the hallowed gates of Portway the micro climate revealed a dense fog, sucking in all vision and warmth from the pitch which soon became a hard spiky obstacle to any form of contact game.
Touch rugby it was to be. New rules for both sides meant a frustrating game for them all and the patient old Yardleians ref who battled hard to try and keep the game flowing. He at least managed to stay warm as the frost deepened. Soon both sides settled into it and eventually Bees came out winners on the day. There may have been more tries but no one could see them anyway!
The best part of the day for our parents came in the warm relief of Chef Peely's kitchen. A welcoming place any Sunday but especially today. Under the watchful eye of the master chef himself they all put a big shift in during the morning. Despite some nugget fryers going on the blink they still managed to feed the cold and hungry hoards returning form the abyss outside. A big thank you to all in the kitchen today.
The boys and girls are away at Claverdon next Sunday to hopefully turn round a big defeat last season when we last played them. On their current improving form it should be a good game. Hopefully the weather will improve and they can get back to doing what they do best.
