Slow start costs Bees
Rain shower out of the way and some good playing conditions today.
For the first 5 minutes or so Hereford set out their game plan of big runners and initially Bees competed well. but 9 minutes in saw Hereford's first converted score quickly followed by a penalty and two converted scores. So 20 minutes in and 24-0 down this could have quickly turned into a rout. Some good scores from Hereford with successful offloading the order of the day.
Not 10 from the restart turned out to be a bit of a turning point. Bees secure possession against the head at the scrum and sees Bees go wide and deep into the 22. Hereford go offside and Ben taps and snipes over. Then converting for 24-7 on 23 minutes.
this score gave Bees a real shot in the arm and eventually back up to the Hereford 22. A great set move from the backs deserved more than a final pass to touch in the 22. Turnovers exchanged at the line out with Hereford eventually clearing long with Bees cover defence knocking on and chops to the ref rewarded with a quickly taken penalty with Bees defence all at sea giving a further converted score on 32 minutes concluding the first half scoring. 31-7
Bees started the second half as they finished the first, blunting the Hereford forward charges and making most progress when a bit more control at the breakdown followed by some zip in attack. Some great competition with Bees edging territory finally rewarded with Lewis B going over from a quick tap following a free kick for an early engage at the scrum deep in the 22. 31-14 46 minutes in.
Bees were clawing there way back into this one and again started edging territory but after earning turnover ball on halfway Hereford make progress upfield. A penalty gives Bees an opportunity to clear but a strong running return sees Hereford go wide and over. Kicking boots on for a further conversion for 38-14 on 59 minutes.
Bees keep it going and again edge territory. Bees crossed the line once with Corry held up over the line. Pressure on and repeated offences in their 22 earning Hereford the only yellow in a well contested and clean game. Lewis B going over again from short range to close out the game with a 38-19 score.
Lineout improving and scrum going well are good positives. Stifling big opposition early doors is what Bees need to be able to master. From 21 minutes in we won this one!
Only snag is it's the whole game score that counts and Hereford were worthy winners on the day.
