Young Bees fight Back

Strong wind and dull conditions at Sixways for Bees Colts season opener away to Worcester. The Kim Jong Un method of send a few bombs up in the air and see what happens might be a tactic for today.
Bees start into the wind. Worcester successfully recycle a couple of times before sending in out into the back. An incomplete pass if picked up by Bees who send the ball out wide quickly before being bundled into touch deep inside the Worcester 22. From a scrappy line out Bees come up with possession and Noah nips in down the blind side and into the corner. 0-5 4 minutes in.
Worcester restart and Bees gather but crossing in midfield gives a penalty to Worcester. Worcester kick for touch. Worcester knock on at the line out and a further offence after the Bees scrum allows Bees to clear to touch passed halfway.Bees secure possession from the line out before attacking wide, recycling and going wide again. Further successful recycling is slowed by Worcester but Noah manages to skip through a tackle in midfield before scoring and then converting. 0-12 10 minutes in.
The second score seemed to give Worcester a big wake up call and their big pack started to influence the game. Bees have the first attack after the restart but after successfully defending it Worcester progress steadily up the pitch and deep into Bees 22. Penalty for offside giving Worcester possession about 5m out and a few pick and drives later sees them go over. Converted for 7-12 on 19 minutes.
The next phase of the game was played mainly in Bees half with conditions making clearing difficult. A concerted period of pressure followed but Bees defence all too often too keen and going offside allowing Worcester easy possession and territory. So it wasn't unexpected when a further offside in midfield near the 22 allowed the Worcester centre to make his first break and go over under the posts. Converted for 14-12 32 minutes in.
It was Worcester again with the final score of the half with a Bees penalty allowing them to kick up to Bees 22. Bees compete well but again can't clear their lines with a further penalty midfield on the 22 giving Worcester to option to successfully kick for points successfully closing out the half 17-12.
Next score crucial and Bees with the wind advantage.
Worcester restart doesn't go 10. Bees secure possession and get to the 10m before knocking on. From the scrum Worcester holding on and Bees going offside eventually results in territory gain for Worcester and a line out near halfway. Worcester take possession and an initial break down the blind side is followed by a race down the wing and in for 22-12 on 41 minutes.
Bees restart and a similar pattern emerges with Bees not being able to settle or control the game with the result of Worcester s pack exercising control. The culmination of steady progress seeing them up to and eventually past a heroic Bees defence only breached on I think the fourth attempt. 27-12 50 minutes in.
27 points unanswered scoring and an overall three score deficit would sink many teams.
A bit more of spring from the restart sees Bees recover possession before knocking on, they were up to the 22 but not for long. Worcester then claw their way back to Bees 22 before offending. Quick running from Bees makes ground deep into the 22. A few pick and drives gets them to the line and a quick snipe from Ben sees them over. 27-17 on 57 minutes.
Bees take the restart and instantly make progress up-field before going wide for Dec to chase down the wing and in. Touchline conversion from Noah for 27-24 59 minutes in.
3 minutes later and at it again. Bees up and into the 22, an attack wide and Kam goes in for Bees to edge in front 27-29.
Worcester still compete doggedly but the cohesion of the big pack seemed to drop off a bit or was it a reinvigorated Bees defence. Worcester still exercised some control but couldn't stifle Bees in the same way as in earlier parts of the game. Big one up runners was the order of the day now but Bees scrambling and cover defence never letting them get too far. Bees finally halting Worcester in the Bees 22 with Worcester penalised for holding on, allowing Bees to clear to end the game.
Really good healthy competition today and a great showing from both sides.
