Bristol based Old Redcliffians RFC provide the opposition in Bees first home game in National League 2 South

Bees will be looking to build on last Saturday's encouraging start to the season at Tonbridge Juddians, where a strong second half showing enabled them to secure a well deserved losing bonus point.

Old Redcliffians RFC provide the opposition this Saturday. They were founded in 1918, by former pupils of Redcliffe Boys school which was established towards the end of the 16th Century. The club enjoyed a strong period in the early 1980's, playing for three seasons in the John Player Cup. The advent of league rugby saw Old Redcliffians play mainly in the Somerset or Western Counties leagues. The club's fortunes started to improve in 2010, when they beat Northern 42-21 to win the RFU Intermediate Cup at Twickenham. Famous former players include Gareth Chilcott and more recently prop Ellis Genge, who now plays for Leicester Tigers. Last season was their first in National League 2 South, a final day 34-12 win over Redruth enabled them to avoid relegation and finish in 12th place, on 58 points.

In common with Bees, Old Redcliffians also experienced a narrow 3 point defeat last weekend, losing at home 14-17 to near neighbours Clifton.

Bees welcome back talisman fly half, Max Rodman, with Harry O'Brien reverting to full back. The only other change in the Backs sees Luke Smith in the No. 14 shirt.

In the Pack, Alex Willis, formerly of Bournville RFC, starts at hooker, with Marcus Brown, a try scorer at Tonbridge last weekend, coming in at open side flanker. A new name in the Bees squad this weekend is Tim Daley, a loose head prop on loan from Stourbridge RFC.

Bees will be trying their hardest to win their opening home game in this competitive league, but will be wary that Bristol based club sides always provide tough opposition!

Meanwhile the Hornets start their season with an away fixture in the Midlands Reserve League at Broadstreet RFC (KO, 3pm).
