BEES THROW WEIGHT BEHIND NHS “TIME TO QUIT” SMOKING CAMPAIGN

Birmingham & Solihull Rugby Club have teamed up with Solihull NHS Trust to help promote National No Smoking Day

National No Smoking Day is Wednesday 9th March 2011 and the Bees are lending their support to the local NHS trust in their “Time to quit” campaign, which aims to encourage people to give up smoking for good.

Stop smoking advisors from the service will be at the Bees’ home match against Worcester on Saturday 19th February to give free advice on stopping smoking, as well as running carbon monoxide breath tests for smokers.

‘Big Cig’, a six foot cigarette who is the “face” of the Stop Smoking campaign will accompany Bees’ mascot Brumble Bee out onto the pitch at the game and will then be on hand to pass the smoke free message on to what is set to be a sell-out crowd at Damson Park, the home of Birmingham & Solihull Rugby Club.

Denise Milnes from Solihull NHS Stop Smoking Service said, “We are delighted to be working with the Birmingham and Solihull Bees for this year’s campaign. We are looking forward to meeting the supporters at game and the smoke free message is all the stronger from having positive endorsement from trained athletes such as professional rugby players.”

“We hope that Solihull smokers will join a million others in planning to stop on 9th March as there has never been a better time to stop with more free NHS help available than ever before.”
