UNDER 10S BRING BACK SILVERWARE FROM SOUTH COAST INTERNATIONAL RUGBY FESTIVAL
Birmingham & Solihull U10s were on tour last weekend, competing in the South Coast International rugby festival. This was a two day tournament attracting teams from all over Europe and saw the Club’s youngsters securing a fantastic tournament win in their age group. Congratulations to players and coaches alike, with a report from the festival as follows.
Day one was the group stage and first up were Worthing who scored from the first play of the game. This woke the boys up, with the forwards taking control and the backs running riot. It was 2 tries for Noah, 3 for Ben and Mwathi touching down for his first try in Bees colours, final score 6-1.
Bletchley were the next opposition and the boys soon took control in all departments scoring 7 unanswered tries.
Hinckley B were next and they started strong with straight running from their big lads but every one stood firm and it was business as usual. Strong running from Andrew secured him 2 tries a further 2 for Noah and finally 1 for Ivor. 5-0 to the Bees.
Final group game was against Welsh side Fairwater, who had also won all there other games. As is usual when playing a Welsh team it was a very physical game. The Bees forwards let there presence be known and tackled everything, completely shutting them out the game. A scrum against the head saw scrum half Cole pick up and go exploiting the gap to score a try. Great support play between the forwards and backs continued, soon the cracks began to appear as Fairwater struggled with the intensity from the Bees. Lots of replacements from the Welsh side but it was never going to be enough, another 2 tries for Noah made it a 3-0 final score. |

Next day was finals day with a quarter final draw against Buckingham. A scrappy game to start which the boys struggled to settle into but some great aggressive runs from Hooker Joe Davies took us into a 1-0 lead. There was some great handling and pace from the backs, resulting in Nathan getting his first of the day to make the final score 2-0.
Our Semi final draw was against the much talked about Hove A. A physical match was expected and it lived up to the expectation. Hove tried everything but to no avail, the boys kept up the aggressive tackling and was putting them on the back foot constantly. The power and pace from Ivor meant it was only a matter of time before he scored a try.
The second try of the game went to tour captain Ben Freeman, whose exceptional work rate and sheer pace was just to much for the Hove defence. Final score 2-0 Bees.
The final was against another Welsh team, Kenfig Hill. Kenfig Hill started off strongly and looked certain they were going to drive over for a try, but the boys soaked up the pressure and managed to keep them out. The Bees were not getting as much ball as usual but took the few chances we had very well. Wingers Ivor and Will were driven into touch just short of the line but Noah managed to go over for a try to make it 1-0 at half time. The second half was more of the same relentless tackling from the Bees which meant Kenfig Hill were soon struggling with the intensity. Substitutions were made but the Bees were not about to roll over. Good quick ball out to Nathan in the centre allowed him to show his fast pace and with half the welsh side on his back he showed real determination reaching out and planting the ball on the line to seal the victory. Final score 2-0 Bees
A truly magnificent performance from all the boys in all the games.
