Pride at stake as the Bees prepare for trip into Lions den

The Bees will be looking to banish their recent cup blues as they return to league action tomorrow (Saturday 25th March, KO 3pm) against Peterborough Lions.

Currently lying in fourth spot – five points and one place above the Bees – Peterborough Lions are very much the form side in the league at the moment, unbeaten in 11 games. That unbeaten run has included wins (against Sheffield and Nuneaton) and a draw (with Broadstreet) versus the three sides currently above them in the league.

Their only loss, in fact, since the clocks went back at the end of October was on their visit to Portway in November, where a dominant first half display was enough to see the Bees canter home to a 18-10 victory, after they had built up a 15-0 lead at the break.

With just four rounds of this season’s NLM3 campaign remaining, the Lions will no doubt be eager to secure the win to keep them hot on the heels of their promotion rivals. Whilst promotion is not yet a mathematical impossibility for the Bees, in reality their trip Bretton Park will be as much about pride as it is about points – particularly after their disappointing cup exist last Friday.

Having beaten Peterborough 7-19 in the corresponding fixture last season and winning their last league game two weeks ago against Old Halesonians, the Bees should be able to travel in good spirits.

Indeed Pete Glackin and Ben Woods have made only minor adjustments to the side that put Old Halesonians to the sword a fortnight ago.

Pete Koziot starts at loose head, partnering Zan Raimondi and Kurtis Payne in the front row, whilst Chris Goddard and Andy Weaver combine again in the second row. The pack is completed with a back-row line up of Messer’s Scriven, Stephens and Danny Wright.

The Jolly/Rodman partnership in the half backs continues, with Jimmy Oliver and Jevon Hinds at inside and outside centre respectively. Matt Dight retains his place on the right wing, with Tawanda Chipadza on the left flank and Chris Fensome at full back.

Matt Tibbatts has recovered from a knock to take his place on the bench, alongside Joe Foreman and debutant Ollie Russell.
