Every point gained key to Bees playing Level 4 Rugby next season

Following last weekend's excellent victory over London Irish Wild Geese, Bees, in their quest to move out of the National League 2 South relegation zone, will be looking to come away from high flying Henley Hawks with some points. The Hawks sit third in the Table on 93 points, having won nineteen and lost five of the twenty four games they have played. They have the same number of wins and losses as second place Canterbury RFC, but have accrued four fewer bonus points. Henley will be looking to keep up the pressure on Canterbury, prior to their crunch meeting in East Kent on 23 March, so will be just as motivated as Bees to win the game.

Last time out The Hawks won 40-35 at Clifton. To their credit Clifton played for 50 minutes with 14 players, after losing two props through injury, and the game had to go to uncontested scrums. Clifton scored five tries, three early on and two in the final quarter. The Hawks managed six tries, three of which were scored by their inside centre, Dan Barnes.

Henley Hawks won at Portway, in mid-November, by 24 points to 15. The men from Oxfordshire dominated the first half, but Bees came back strongly and were unlucky not to achieve a losing bonus point.

Henley RFC started life as Old Henleiensians (Old boys of Henley Grammar School) in August 1930. After a break during the war years, the club was eventually re-founded in 1954. However, it was not until 1963 that Old Henleiensians changed its name to Henley RFC.

Sir Clive Woodward cut his teeth as Head Coach at Henley in the early 90's. In 1999, Henley experienced a good run in the Tetley's Bitter Cup. They managed to beat Bedford before bowing out to mighty Gloucester at Kingsholm. In recent years, they have been somewhat of a yo-yo club. In 2012/13, they won National League 2 South, only to be relegated from National League 1 the following season. Unfortunately, it was a case of
deja vu, when in 2014/15 they won National League 2 South, only to be relegated from National League 1 at the end of the 2015/16 season. 2018/19, marks their third successive season in National League 2 South. Last season they finished 9th on 73 points. Their Dry Leas ground is leased from the Town Council.

Zane Raimondi starts at hooker for Bees, and Keanan Cooper replaces the injured Adam Clayton at blindside flanker. Pete Glackin is able to name a strong bench, which comprises of Joe Foreman, Stewart Pearl, Marcus Brown, Oscar Heath, and Taraiasi Wara. Taraiasi is a pacey back three player on loan from our near neighbours Birmingham Moseley RFC.
