Bees planning a Saturday evening raid on Guernsey

Bees will be looking to put on a good show, after last weekend's lacklustre performance at Clifton, in their first ever meeting with Guernsey Raiders RFC. Guernsey currently sit in 13th place in National League 2 S, on 13 points. In their opening seven games, they have recorded wins over Barnes and Clifton, and lost to Old Albanian, Worthing, Bury St Edmunds, Redruth and last weekend, 48-14, at Rams, who currently sit top of the table.

Guernsey RFC (now known as Guernsey Raiders RFC) was founded in 1913. Its inter-island match with Jersey, for the Siam Cup, was first contested in 1920, making it one of the oldest rugby honours contested after the Calcutta Cup. The fixture now takes place after the conclusion of the regular league season. Guernsey joined the English league system in 1987, playing, initially, in the Hampshire leagues. In 2011/12, Guernsey won London 1 South, finishing above Old Elthamians, and consequently were promoted to National League 3 London & South East. Last season they finished one point behind winners Barnes in the London & South East Premier Division, earning a home play off game against Bournemouth. Guernsey won 38-23, and the right to play level 4 rugby for the first time in their history. Their Footes Lane ground has a capacity of 5,000 (720 seated).

Bees have a number of players who are injured or unavailable for this game, but, Head of Rugby, Pete Glackin is still able to name a strong side. In the backs Sean O'Sullivan comes in at scrum half, with captain Jack Jolly moving to fill the No. 10 shirt. With speedy full back Corey Venus returning from injury, Nath Tilsley returns to his normal position at inside centre. In the forwards Nick Bingham comes in for Joe Foreman at loose head, and Matt Spink will partner Andrew Weaver in the second row. Ed Krawiecki joins Ash Scriven, and Marcus Brown in the back row.

A safe journey to the team and many supporters travelling to the game.

The Hornets do not have a fixture this weekend.
