Bees name an unchanged starting line-up for the trip to Bournville

Birmingham & Solihull have named the same starting 15 that triumphed at Newbold last weekend for this Saturday’s trip to Bournville (24th February, KO 3.00pm).

A third away fixture in a row sees the Bees travel the short distance to Bournbrook, where Bournville currently ply their trade on the all-weather pitch at the University of Birmingham campus. The game was originally due to be played in December but was cancelled due to inclement weather.

Winning ways were restored last Saturday with a 3-29 win at Newbold on Avon and Pete Glackin and Stewart Pearl have kept faith with the starting 15 which notched up a 17th win of the season. The win extended the Bees’ advantage over nearest rivals Peterborough Lions to six points, having played two less games. This Saturday’s fixture is one of those games in hand.

There are changes on the bench however, with both Matt Spink and Jimmy Oliver returning to join Kurtis Payne.

Bournville currently sit in tenth spot in the Midlands Premier division on 42 points, winning eight games in 19 outings. Wins at home have been notched up against Scunthorpe (36-12), Doncaster Phoenix (34-29), Longton (42-14), Old Halesonians (74-19) and Lichfield (30-14). They have been less successful on the road, with just three victories to date at Sandbach (17-43), Newbold (21-22) and Longton (43-45).

Although they were well beaten when the two sides met at Portway back in Round 2 in September, Bournville come into this weekend’s game unbeaten in two fixtures. Their current side features two former Bees players Mitch McGahan and Terry ‘Tex’ Sigley.

Travelling Bees fans should note the later than usual kick off time of 3pm, with the only parking available pitch side at Bournbrook, as (apparently) a triathlon is taking place at the University.
