Pre-season programme continues this Saturday, as the Bees head south west to Dings Crusaders

The Bees have their second pre-season outing this Saturday (12th August, KO 2.30pm), as they travel down to Bristol to play Dings Crusaders RFC.

Finishing runners up in National League 3 South West last season, Dings will feature in the South West Premier division this coming season – at an equivalent level (Level 5) to the Bees.

The Bees will be looking to build on a solid first outing last week at Rugby Lions, which saw the visitors take the spoils 19-43.

“The Rugby Lions fixture was a great start to our preseason block with an impressive display from the whole squad” said Head of Rugby Pete Glackin.

“It was great to incorporate the new additions into our sets and also provide valuable game time for our younger players - many of whom were making their first senior appearance for the club. As well as our continued work, we scored a total of seven tries, highlighting our attacking threat. The attitude from everyone was fantastic.”

This week’s game will be run in three 30-minute sets and the Bees will be travelling with a 28 man squad – five players are currently on the injury list (Sonny Young, Matt Dickens, Alex O’Malley, Diaba and Jevon Hinds) with a further six players unavailable for the trip (Andy Weaver, Chris Fensome, Ben Cooper, Matt Dight, Jamie Domachi and Owen Walker).

In the forwards, the squad features Sam Allen, Matt Collier, Keenan Cooper, Umraan Dixon-Jadwat, Reece Donaldson, Joe Foreman, Jacob Lisle, Jake Ngatchu, Kurtis Payne, Matt Probert, George Radburn, Zane Raimondi, Ash Scriven, Harry Smith, Matt Spink, Michael Stephens, Chris Thompson and Danny Wright.

In the backs, Harry O’Brien, Tawanda Chipadza, Steve Johns, Jack Jolly, Max Rodman, Jimmy Oliver, Ben Phillips, Jack Secher, Sean O’Sullivan and Nathan Tilsley all make the trip.

Speaking ahead of the game, Pete Glackin said “We are looking to take this weekend’s opportunity to continue our development as one squad, working hard for each other, developing our understanding and roles for the season ahead. We had a number of players away last weekend so the Dings fixture gives us the chance to embed them into the match day squad this weekend.”
