Thirteen debutants in 31-man squad for trip to Rugby Lions

The Bees start their pre-season programme in earnest this Saturday (5th August, KO 2pm) against Rugby Lions at Webb Ellis Road.

The Midlands 1 West side, who were promoted as champions of Midlands 2 West (South) last season, are the first of four games in August for the Bees as they prepare for the new season in the Midlands Premier division.

With the fixture programmed in a 4 x 25 minute section format, the Bees are taking a 31 man squad over to Rugby, including 13 players who are due to make their first senior appearance in the club’s shirt.

With Head of Rugby Pete Glackin not yet back from vacation, the coaching team of Stuart Pearl, Steve Clarke and Tom Greevy will be taking the reins for this game.

Making their senior debuts in the forwards will be props Dan Truepenny, Jake Ngatchu and Matt Probert, hooker Jamie Domachi, lock Keenan Cooper and backrowers Jacob Lisle, Matt Collier and Chris Thompson. In the backs, newcomers Jack Secher, Sean O’Sullivan, Harry O’Brien, Sonny Young and Jamie Maynard will also be looking to impress.

Familiar faces in the forwards making the trip to the birthplace of the game include Kurtis Payne, Zane Raimondi, Joe Foreman, George Radburn, Andy Weaver, Matt Spink, Danny Wright, Reece Donaldson and Michael Stephens.

In the backs, club captain Jack Jolly is joined by Max Rodman, Matt Dight, Steve Johns, Jimmy Oliver, Jevon Hinds, Tawanda Chipadza, Chris Fensome and Ollie Blundell.

Speaking ahead of the game, Head of Rugby Pete Glackin said “A lot of hard work has gone in by everyone on and off the field since the end of last season in April. We are the fittest that we have ever been as a squad so it is a great opportunity to start our block of pre-season games in style.”

“We have a few injuries (Matt Dickens, Alex O’Malley and Diaba) and some unavailability’s (Harry Smith, Umraan Dixon-Jadwat, Ash Scriven, Sam Allen, Ben Phillips, Nathan Tilsley, Ben Cooper and Owen Walker) for this fixture, but they will get their chance over the following three outings I am sure”.

Please note the game is a 2pm and not a 3pm kick off as previously advised. Directions to the ground (SatNav CV22 7AU) can be found at www.therugbyfootballclub.co.uk .
