Third of three successive Sevens outings culminates at Worcester this weekend

A highly successful mini-series for the Bees participating in sevens’ tournaments ends at Sixways, the home of Worcester Warriors, this Saturday (1st July, Sat Nav WR3 8ZE).

This will be the third successive weekend that the Bees have been in sevens action and last Saturday’s trip to Olney produced the first “silverware” of the season for the club.

“We entered two squads in to the Olney 7s tournament for the first time and put on a great display of rugby.” Said Head of Rugby, Pete Glackin. “Both squads dominated their pool groups (Open & Social Events) topping them both and progressing to the final stages of the tournament in fantastic fashion.

The “Bees Hives” topped the open group, winning 2 from 3 pool games including an outstanding 24-17 win against National League 1 side Coventry Rugby. Progressing to the quarter finals, they lost a tough fixture to finalists Ilkley 7s (Squad: Weaver ©, Stephens, Raimondi, Scriven, Allen, Tilsley, Secher, Murray, Rodman, Dight, Rundle, Hinds).

The “Bees Stings” led by Danny Wright & Tom Greevy were undefeated all day and won the Social tournament in style, bringing the first trophy of the season back to the Portway (Squad: Spink, Donaldson, Domachi, Greevy, O’Sullivan, Boon, Young, Chipadza, O’Brien ©, Diaba, Collier, Radburn).

“We played some class rugby, scoring tries for fun – it was absolute quality from the whole squad. It was an amazing day.”

There is just the one Bees squad for the RFU Midlands Region “24/Sevens” finals event at Worcester this Saturday.

Andy Weaver and Max Rodman once again take the captain and vice-captain armbands respectively in a squad which also features Reece Donaldson, Asley Scriven, Jamie Domachi, Steve Johns, Jack Secher, Sean O’Sullivan, Jevon Hinds, Matt Dight, Sonny Young and Tawanda Chipadza.

The squad is meeting at the Worcester Warriors ground at Sixways at 11am, which their first game at 12.15pm. There is no official information either on the RFU or Worcester Warriors website, but any Bees’ supporters wishing to go along will no doubt be able to find (hopefully) free entry and free parking. Refreshment will no doubt be extra!
