Midlands Premier League action back on the agenda with visit of last season’s bogey team

After the excitement of the North Midlands Cups Quarter Final last weekend, it’s back to league action on Saturday (14th October KO 3pm) for the Bees as they welcome Lichfield to Portway.

The Staffordshire side were very much the Bees’ bogey side last season – they were the only opposition team to "do the double" over the Men in Black, with a 23-15 victory at Portway and a 36-12 win at Cooke Fields.

Lichfield currently lie seventh in the Midlands Premier table with two wins and three defeats thus far. They've had the privilege of playing both early season league leaders, Peterborough Lions and Newport Salop and have come off worse on each occasion. Probably the highlight of their season to date was their away victory at Nuneaton (21-25).

For their part, the Bees will be keen to maintain their 100% league record – their most recent outing in the competition saw them put a strong Doncaster Phoenix side to the sword, running out 29-57 winners at Castle Park a fortnight ago.

Pete Glackin has made just two changes to the line-up that started against Doncaster – both enforced. With Kurtis Payne out with an illness, Joe Foreman comes in at loose head, with Matt Probert switching to the tight. Whilst an injury to Jimmy Oliver means that the outside centre berth is filled by Steve Johns. On the bench, a fit again Jack Secher is joined by Harry Smith and Matt Spink.

Meanwhile the Hornets are back on the road again, with a fixture against Banbury 2nds in the Midlands Reserve League (KO 3pm, Sat Nav OX15 4AF).
