First local derby of the season at Portway, with both sides unbeaten after first round of league action

With a dogged 20-15 season opening win against Scunthorpe under their belts, the Bees have another appetising home game to look forward to this weekend with the visit of Bournville (Saturday 9th September at Portway, KO 3pm).

Newly promoted to Midlands Premier this season and also winning their opening league game last week (a 17-43 bonus point victory up at Sandbach), Bournville will have fond memories of their most recent visit to Portway.

Then, playing the Bees in the Semi Final of the North Midlands Cup under floodlights in March this year, Bournville came back from an early 26-7 deficit to win a thrilling encounter 26-32, thereby booking a place in a final where they would eventually emerge as Cup Winners for the 2016/17 season.

Having recruited over the summer and with a squad which includes three ex-Bees (Mitch McGahan, Luke Smith and Terry Sigley), Bournville are likely to provide an equally stern test as Scunthorpe did last week.

There are just two changes to the Bees line up from the Scunthorpe game. With Joe Foreman eligible to start this weekend, Matt Probert drops to the bench, whilst JT Nabetelevu makes his debut on the wing, coming in for the injured Jevon Hinds.

With his red card withdrawn on appeal from last week (the club successfully argued that it was clear from the match video that no offence had occurred) Matt Spink is cleared to again take his place on the bench.

Having also made a winning start to their season last weekend (defeating Syson 2s 23-50), the Hornets will be hitting the road again – this time against Towcestrians 2s in the Midlands Reserve League 1 at Greens Norton Road. KO is 3pm for them too.
