2011 Festival Results

Sunday 13th March saw our Portway ground deluged with cars and coaches from across the West Midlands along with Lymm who had travelled down from Cheshire. Well over a 1000 people had turned up to either play in or watch, what turned out to be some fantastic fiercely contested rugby!

The games began promptly at 11am with two pitches in each age group U7s to U12s providing perfect playing arenas for running rugby. A non-stop 3-4 hours saw teams from Bees, Barkers, Bromsgrove, Chaddesley, Kidderminster, Kings Norton, Lichfield, Lymm, Silhillians, Stourbridge, Stratford and Sutton competing to win the Festival honours. The days sponsor was Stratstone Landrover and the match balls where kindly sponsored by Bridgestone.

After the pool games had been completed, with the winning team from each pool playing each other in the final at 3pm. Even after the pool games the quality of rugby played in the finals was exhilarating, with most of the matches being a tightly contested.

In the U7s age group Bromsgrove were the winners with Sils being runners up.

In the U8s age group Lymm were the winners with Kings Norton runners up.

In the U9s age group Stourbridge and Lichfield shared the winners trophy.

In the U10s age group Lymm just pipped B&S .

In the U11s age group Lymm where the winners with Lichfield runners up.

In the U12s age group Stratford were champions with Lichfield coming in second position .

The winners and runners up medals where presented by Chairman Dai

A big thank you goes to our Under 10’s Coaches and parent helpers who helped make a truly fantastic day of rugby! Thanks also to the U16’s for doing the car parking, Peely for all his culinary skills, the Bikers for running the bar and everyone else who mucked in on the day.

The under 10's got off to a slow start to the festival in pool A. Held tireless at half time in the first game some substitutions were required to enable an eventual 2-0 victory over Stourbridge. A tough game was expected next with Bromsgrove A the opposition and the boys upped their game a gear to win by 3 tries to nil. Next up were local rivals Moseley and an entertaining game eventually finished with a 4-0 victory.
Needing to win the last fixture against Lichfield the boys put in another improved performance to win 5-0. To  reach the final without conceding a try was a great achievement but in the final lay last years victors, Lymm.
Knowing the tough challenge ahead the boys prepared themselves for a fast and physical encounter. As expected the opposition came out with all guns blazing and quickly scored two quick tries. A further try meant the Bees went in at half time 3-0 down. In the second half Bees showed real spirit and determination and skill to pull a try back, but soon Lymm's superiority resulted in two more tries. Never giving up the Bees ended the game in the opposition half and scored the final try of the game to finish runners up in the competition by a 5-2 score line. A great days rugby and a well earned runners-up medal for the boys.
