Pertemps Bees 17 Northampton Saints 27
Bees unlucky not to grab a bonus point
A great effort from the Bees who led the national Divison 1 leaders for long
periods in the game, but late tries from Mark Easter and Paul Diggin gave The
Saints a victory – 17-27.
The boys started well and scored early when Alex Davidson was driven over for
the try on 7 minutes, Higgins converted and the Bees were seven points up. Vass
from the Saints scored on 26 minutes and kicking into the wind the conversion
was missed by Everitt.
The Bees extended their lead three minutes later when Andy Daish scored a try
which was again converted by the confident Higgins – Bees were leading
14-5 and not looking like a team routed to the foot of the table. The Saints
reduced the deficit just before half time with a try from the skipper Reihana
which was converted by Everitt. The half time score was 14-12.
The second got underway with the Saints kicking into the wind. Everitt kicked
a penalty on 47 minutes to give the Saints the lead for the first time. The
Bees kept going and Higgins delivered another great kick to give the bees back
the lead at 17-15.
With three minutes to go, Easter scored from a five-metre scrum. This was followed
by a try from Diggin, converted by Reihana which gave the Saints the win 17
-27
