LARSEN
IN LINE FOR SEMI PLACE (March 22 2007)
Wales Under-20 flanker Matt Larsen is in line to be included in Pertemps Bees'
squad for the EDF Energy National Trophy semi-final against Exeter Chiefs at Sandy
Park on Saturday March 24 (3pm).
Larsen, a former Cardiff player, signed for Pertemps Bees in January but his availability
has so far been restricted by Wales Under-20 training commitments and his studies
at Leicester University.
His appearances so far have been limited to a couple of outings off the bench
but he is available this weekend and is in line for a return to the squad as Pertemps
Bees bid to reach a Twickenham final for the first time. It will be their third
national semi-final in four seasons following defeats by Newcastle Falcons in
the Powergen Cup three years ago and Bedford in the Powergen Trophy in 2005.
Lock Mark Gabey is set to captain the side against his former club having impressed
as skipper in last weekend's National League One win over London Welsh. Mark Cornwell,
the official captain, was rested last weekend and may have to settle for a place
on the bench at Exeter.
Centre Tristan Davies, who has missed the last two games because of a hamstring
injury, will have a late fitness test at training this evening in the hope that
he might be able to play part of the game.
If Davies, a former Wales Under-21 international, does not recover, Dave Knight
and Adam Billig will continue with their centre partnership.
Flanker Dan Tuohy, who has been sidelined for two months by a knee injury, will
also have a fitness test tonight to determine whether he might be ready to rejoin
the semi-final squad as a replacement.
