MORGAN ENJOYS HIMSELF AT MINI RUGBY FESTIVAL (March 21 2007)
England full-back Olly Morgan enjoyed himself at the Land Rover-sponsored Birmingham & Solihull Mini Rugby Festival at Portway on Sunday March 18.
Morgan attended the event with his Gloucester team-mate winger Mark Foster, who had a spell on loan at Pertemps Bees two years ago, and the two signed autigraphs for fans and presented the prizes at the end of a busy day.
The host club did particularly well,k winning both the Under-8 and Under-10 tournaments and finishing as runners-up in the Under-11 competition. Solihull rivals Silhillians won the Under-11 event and finished as runners-up in the Under-9 and Under-12 competitions.
The other winners were Nottingham in the Under-9 event and Bromsgrove in the Under-12 tournament.
Despite bitterly cold weather and a strong wind the festival attracted more than 1,000 spectators who contributed to a successfully-staged event.
"Olly Morgan and Mark Foster were a credit to their club and their profession," said Dai Phillips, the chairman of Birmingham & Solihull's mini section. "They were superb ambassadors for rugby, signing autographs, chatting to players and spectators and presenting the various prizes.
"The standard of rugby was excellent across all age groups competing at the tournament and it was an extremely enjoyable day of rugby.
"Parents were also kept entertained with Land Rover’s national competition to win a coaching clinic with rugby ambassador Josh Lewsey for their children’s team which is being run at mini rugby festivals across the UK. I was absolutely delighted by the support we received from Land Rover, Stratstones and Gloucester in making our festival such a success.’
