Olly gets dumpedStratstone Land Rover got behind local rugby talent this weekend by sponsoring this year’s Birmingham & Solihull Mini Rugby Festival at Portway. The festival saw local sides aged between 7 and 12 compete for the array of trophies and medals, which were awarded by Gloucester stars Olly Morgan and Mark Foster.
After the Pertemps Bees’ exciting 31-27 victory over London Welsh on Saturday, the club’s mini and midi sections showed that there is plenty of aspiring young talent lower down in the club as they emerged winners in both the under 8s and under 10s categories. Local rivals Silhillians impressed too by taking the honours in the under 7s and under 11s while finishing runners up at under 9 and under 12 level. Among the other entrants Nottingham and Bromsgrove managed to claim top spot in the under 9 and under 12 competitions respectively while Stratford finished runners up in the under 8s.
Neal Delo, Dealer Principal at Stratstone Land Rover Solihull commented: ‘The festival was a huge success and we were proud to be supporting such a great event for the first time. Land Rover has a strong history in rugby and is delighted to help promote the continued growth of the sport nationally and at grassroots level in the local area’.
Dai Phillips, Chairman of the Mini and Junior Rugby at Birmingham & Solihull RFC, said: ‘The standard of rugby was excellent across all age groups competing at the tournament and it was an extremely enjoyable day of rugby. Parents were also kept entertained with Land Rover’s national competition to win a coaching clinic with rugby ambassador Josh Lewsey for their children’s team which is being run at mini rugby festivals across the UK. I was absolutely delighted by the support we received from Land Rover, Stratstones and Gloucester in making our festival such a success.’
Stratstone Land Rover were present all day allowing supporters and players to view the award winning Discovery 3 and the all new Freelander 2 vehicles.
