BEES GET TUOHY BOOST (January 24 2007)
Pertemps Bees were today given a much-needed fitness boost when it was discovered
that flanker Dan Tuohy's knee ligament injury is not as serious as was first feared.
The former Ireland Under-21 international was carried off midway through the first
half of last Saturday's EDF Energy National Trophy win over Launceston with what
was feared might be an anterior cruciate ligament injury which would rule him
out for the remainder of the season.
But Tuohy had scans today which showed only damage to the acrtilage and possibly
medial ligament in the knee, an injury that is expected to keep him sidelined
for between six to eight weeks.
"It's not an ACL injury which is the good news," said Steve Williams,
Pertemps Bees' head coach. "It's not as bad as we feared but it still means
that he will be out for between six and eight weeks.
"There is damage to the cartilage and possibly some to the medial ligament
so he will still have to have an operation. But it's a much more encouraging situation
than the one we expected."
