bees community rugby WELCOME
2009/10

ALEX DAVIDSON & CRAIG VOISEY

Hi and welcome to Bees Community Rugby.

Over the last 12 months we have been busy building links with members of the Local Health Authority and SMBC and with their advice we have been able to put together our coaching resource and delivery framework for the year ahead. Essentially our aim is to present a resource of healthy male role models for use in all aspects of our sports coaching and community engagement. Through this broad aim we are able to target health, education and a issue agendas.

Resource

Our coaching resource is unique in that it consists of the majority of our 1st XV playing squad. The ‘Boys’ have all been CRB checked and we are also pleased to announce that our coaches will all be entered into a tailored coach development programme which will see them continue to up-skill.

Our coaching resource is unique in that it consists of the majority of our 1st XV playing squad. The ‘Boys’ have all been CRB checked (allowing them legally to work with children) and we are also pleased to announce that via a link with the RFU our coaches will all be entered into a tailored coach development programme which will see them continue to up-skill.

Delivery

We are currently utilising our skills in several ways. We have continued to work with All Sports Coaching (ASC), a local company founded by former Bees player Duncan White, and one time Bees trialist Chris Shipway. The company now solely run by the latter enables our coaches to work within local schools delivering all of their physical education needs within National Curriculum guidelines.

Further to this we have highlighted ‘Tag Rugby’ as our preferred delivery mechanism. Through approaches with and from local primary schools we are running after-school clubs and eventually hope to have enough teams to play a borough wide tournament as well as enable curtain raisers to be played prior to some Bees' 1st XV home games.

Lasting Impact

Our work will also help enhance and support grass-root participation by introducing and encouraging greater playing numbers to take-up rugby at club level, sign-posting enthusiastic players to appropriate clubs and Mini & Junior sections where possible.

Recognising the huge potential of would-be-rugby followers, players and volunteers, as well as the latent need for healthy male role models within the north of our borough we are also working with Archbishop Grimshaw Catholic School, Solihull Sustain and The North Solihull Partnership to build an identity in the community and offer our assistance in their work.

We have already been successful in attracting like minded organisations to support our programme, click here to see who's supporting us, but for now...

All the best,

Alex
Community Team Manager
